The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent awards ceremony draws close, there’s always an outcry for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
